Megan-

You know what I like to read, and I really like the Harry Potter books.  I read the first book because of Jayson's interest in Harry Potter, and wound up enjoying it for myself - and wound up buying all four books and becoming a fan myself.  I describe them a bit like an in-depth fairy tale for older kids.  The books are imaginative and well written.  Definitely worth reading, in my opinion.  Just pick up a copy of the first book from the library and give it a try.  If you don't like it, no harm done.  If you do like it, then invest in the other books.  And if you're like me, you'll be able to tell in the first ten pages or so if you like the book or not - with Harry Potter, I didn't want to put the book down once I got a few pages into it.

GRRR-will someone tell me why the damn Harry Potter books are interesting to adults?  Stephen King, my favorite author, is retiring soon, so I will need a new author to follow.  Therefore, YES I AM interested in why these Harry Potter books are so popular.  But I don't want to buy one if there's a chance I might not enjoy it.  I like Stephen King, Thomas Harris, and Dean Koontz.  A.K. Rollings (sp?)?  Someone let me know if she'd interest me, please.

The reasons to love this story are too numerous to list. I won't even try because no one else would really be interested either.

Well, let me tell you this.  My daughter (who is currently 10 1/2) is also a Harry Potter enthusiast and she also ravenously read each new book Harry Potter book, in turn, as it was released.  I, however, did not think I could possibly like them and so I didn't even bother attempting any of them.

However, when the first movie came out, I had to accompany my daughter to see it and was EXTREMELY pleasantly surprised at how well I liked it.  And I think I actually enjoyed the second movie even more.  I can't say why Joe likes it so much, but I can CERTAINLY understand why he would.
